Your first Vinyasa Flow class
It is normal to feel unsure before your first yoga class. You might wonder what to wear or whether you will know what to do. Here is what to expect in my Vinyasa Flow class in Sway.
Before class
Wear anything you can move in. Bring water. Everything else — mats, blocks, blankets — is provided. Arrive five minutes early, tell me it's your first class (this matters: I teach differently when I know), and pick any spot except directly behind the pillar.
The hour itself
We start lying down or seated, a few minutes of arriving and breath. Then movement builds slowly: cat-cows, slow sun salutations, standing postures held for a few breaths each — warrior two, triangle, a balance with a wall nearby. I offer options for each posture so you can choose what feels manageable. The pace follows breath, not music, and nobody adjusts you without asking. The last ten minutes wind down to stillness.
What nobody expects of you
- Touching your toes. You do not need to be flexible to join.
- Keeping up. Resting in child's pose mid-class is normal and unremarkable.
- Knowing the names. I explain each movement as we go.
- Performance. In a class of ten, beginners are usually the majority.
After
If you have questions after class, you are welcome to talk to me. Book a single class on the booking page if you would like to try it. Wednesday mornings, 9:15, at the yoga hut on Mount Pleasant Lane in Sway — £12 a class.
